The ruling on one who commits unlawful sexual intercourse in the month of Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21208 )
Q: What is the ruling on one who committed unlawful sexual intercourse in the month of Ramadan , and that was during his days of ignorance, and he is now asking Allah for forgiveness? Knowing that he is now married and has children, and he asked about it and was told that it is obligatory for him to fast two consecutive months, but that will lead to his wife and family asking about the reason for the fasting, which may lead to a scandal in front of his wife and family, and Allah had previously concealed it from them. Is it permissible for him to feed or free a slave, in order to conceal it and to preserve the family, which may disintegrate because of that mistake, which was in the days of ignorance before marriage?
A: It is obligatory for the questioner to repent and to perform the expiation, which is freeing a slave. If he cannot do so, he must fast two consecutive months. If he cannot do that either, he must feed sixty poor people. He must also make up the day on which he broke his fast, and it is obligatory for him to pay an expiation for delaying the making up of that day, the amount of which is one and a half kilograms of wheat. What was mentioned in the question is not an excuse that permits deviating from expiation by fasting to
feeding, and success is from Allah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
