Fasting for expiation, then falling ill during the fast
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 14160 )
Q3: A person who is required to perform the expiation for fasting in Ramadan began performing it (the expiation) but was then struck by a severe illness that forced him to take medication. Does he start the fasting from
the beginning after he recovers, or does he continue his fasting from where he left off?
A3: If a person fasts as expiation for intercourse during the day of Ramadan, and then breaks his fast during the fast due to illness, he should complete it immediately after recovering from the illness. The continuity is not broken by his breaking the fast due to illness, because he is excused. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
