Fatwa number ( 17519 )
Q: A man had intercourse with his wife during the day in Ramadan several times , and he was newly married. This happened several years ago, and he and his wife have since performed Hajj and 'Umrah. What is required of them?
A: It is obligatory for each of them to make up the days on which the intercourse occurred, and to feed a poor person for each day due to the delay, along with repentance to Allah. It is also obligatory for each of them to pay an expiation for the number of days on which the intercourse occurred. If the
intercourse was repeated on the same day, then each of them owes only one expiation. The expiation is: freeing a believing slave; if he cannot find one, then fasting two consecutive months; if he is unable to do that, then feeding sixty poor people. As for Hajj and 'Umrah, that does not harm them if they performed them in accordance with the Shari'ah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
