Q297: The questioner says: Superstitions and sorcery are widespread in some communities, such as drawing lines in the sand or reading palms. What is the ruling on one who goes to them or believes them?
A297: There is no doubt that these are among the superstitions, the illusions of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, and the works and methods of associating partners with Allah. They are all among the deeds of Satan. It is not permissible for a Muslim who believes in Allah to go to these people, nor to believe them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam) Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that it is not permissible to go to them, nor to ask them, nor to believe them. The believer must rely upon Allah, place his trust in Him, and maintain his connection with Him (Glorified and Exalted is He). He must also beware of what corrupts his religion, invalidates his creed, or diverts him from the straight path.
