The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20239 )
Q2: If I am very thirsty and tired from herding, should I break my fast in Ramadan and make it up later? May Allah reward you with good.
A2: Working in herding is not an excuse that permits you to break your fast in Ramadan. It is obligatory for you to fast and to seek reward and recompense for enduring the fatigue and thirst that befalls you. Allah will help you with that, if Allah wills. Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous -يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:183]
up to His saying:
The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other daysشَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنْـزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ فَمَنْ شَهِدَ مِنْكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:185]
. And by the praise of Allah, you are not sick nor traveling, so fasting is obligatory upon you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
