Fatwa number ( 14720 )
Q: I performed Hajj this year and completed all the rituals, except that on the twelfth day I was unable to perform the stoning, so I appointed one of my relatives to do it. Since the person I appointed was not hastening, as he stayed overnight in Mina , and I heard that appointing him is not sufficient, I returned on the thirteenth day and performed the stoning for both days. Is my action correct?
A : A pilgrim may not delegate the stoning of the pillars on his behalf except in cases of dire necessity, such as illness or similar conditions like old age or incapacity. You did well in stoning the pillars on your own behalf for the twelfth day. As for the thirteenth day, if your intention was to hasten and you left Mina before the sunset of the twelfth day, then there is no stoning required of you on the thirteenth day, and your stoning on its behalf is not considered valid.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
