Zakah on the debt owed by the husband
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q3: I have a large sum of money that I lent to my husband to build a house for us. Do I have to pay zakah on this money even though it is lent to my husband?
A3: It is obligatory for you to pay zakah on your wealth in the form of debts, whether they are owed by your husband or by someone else, and whether they are loans or otherwise, except if these debts are owed by a person who is unable to pay and it is unknown whether they will be returned or not; in that case, they are subject to zakah when they are received and a lunar year has passed over them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
