The first question of fatwa number ( 17943 )
Q1: What is the evidence for adding money to gold for the purpose of paying zakah when the gold alone does not meet the threshold for zakah , and likewise the same applies to money?
A1 : It is obligatory to combine money, whether it is silver, paper currency, or the value of trade goods, with gold to complete the threshold for zakah; because the total of the money and the gold completes the threshold, so it becomes obligatory to pay zakah. Also, because the obligation regarding trade goods is to pay their value in one of the two currencies. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
