Paying the zakah of another person without informing them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 18261 )
Q1: I have a relative who has some surplus money beyond her needs, and she deposits it with me. A lunar year has passed over it. Should I pay its zakah on her behalf, or should I leave the matter to her, whether she pays it or not? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.
A1 : It is not permissible for you to pay the zakah of the aforementioned money from her funds deposited with you unless you inform her of it and she appoints you as her agent to pay the zakah. She may have already paid her zakah while you are unaware of it. It is good to bring the matter to her attention, out of concern for performing this pillar and for cooperating in righteousness and piety.
