Fatwa No. ( 15424 )
Q: I have read your endorsement of the Tawhid magazine and the Muhammadian Supporters of the Sunnah group in Egypt , and may Allah reward you with good for that. However, the question is: Is it permissible to give them from the voluntary charity and zakah, given their need for money to support the publication of the magazine and spread the creed of tawhid (the oneness of Allah)? I ask your Eminence to reply to me in writing.
A: It is not permissible to pay zakah to support the publication of a religious magazine or similar matters of da'wah (calling others to Islam); because the recipients of zakah are limited to the eight categories mentioned in the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Tawbah 9:60]
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
