The second question of Fatwa No. ( 21209 )
Q2: My grandmother (may Allah have mercy on her) passed away, and we had taken some of her money before her death with the intention that I would return it, but our financial situation is difficult, and my grandmother has passed away, and I have not returned the money I took to her. What is the ruling?
A2: You must inform your grandmother’s heirs of this; because the money is part of your grandmother’s (may Allah have mercy on her) estate. If they forgive you for it, and they are the ones with the right to dispose of it, then it is yours. If they do not forgive you, then you must return it to them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
