Fruits, if they are dried and stored and reach the nisab

Fatwa number ( 14579 )
Q: Regarding the zakah of wealth that comes from the earth, such as the fruits I harvest, I sell them for one thousand Saudi riyals (1000), and I paid zakah on this wealth as one hundred Saudi riyals (100). Some people tell me that the zakah on the thousand I sold is (25) riyals, not one hundred riyals. I calculate that the saved money is subject to zakah at one-quarter of one-tenth, and that what comes from the earth is subject to zakah at one-tenth, not one-quarter of one-tenth. Therefore, I hope for an answer to this previous example: Is the wealth that comes from the earth subject to zakah at one-tenth or one-quarter of one-tenth?
A: The principle regarding fruits, if they are dried and stored and reach the nisab, which is five wasqs, and one wasq is sixty sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg), is that one-tenth is to be paid from them if they are watered without expense, or half of one-tenth if they are watered with expense. As for fruits that are not dried or stored, such as fresh fruits and the like, if they are taken for trade, then they are subject to the zakah of trade goods if their value reaches the nisab by itself or by adding it to other zakatable items, and a lunar year has passed over them, and one-quarter of one-tenth is paid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
