Paying Zakah in the Form of Meat

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14472 )
Q: If a person has one hundred and sixty-six cows, and as we understand it, his zakah is four mature cows, is it permissible to pay his zakah in the form of meat, or is it permissible for the owner of the livestock to buy four mature cows from another person and then hand them over to the collector on his behalf? Is this permissible or not? May Allah reward you for teaching us. Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and upon everyone who follows the guidance.
A: The zakah of one hundred and sixty-six cows is four mature cows, and it is not permissible to pay it in the form of meat. Rather, it must be handed over to the collector, if there is one, or to the poor, without being slaughtered, whether it is from his own possession or bought from someone else. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
