Reciting al-Fatihah as a prayer for my aunt and her son

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question from Fatwa number ( 15393 )
Q 3: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).إذا مات المرء انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقة جارية أو علم ينتفع به أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Riyad as-Salihin 1383
. Is it permissible to recite al-Fatihah as a prayer for my aunt and her son ? And if it is not permissible, what are the appropriate supplications in such situations?

A 3: It is not prescribed for you to recite al-Fatihah or any other part of the Qur'an for them, because there is no evidence for that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
narrated by Muslim . It is prescribed for you to give charity on their behalf and to supplicate for them for forgiveness, mercy, entry into Paradise, and safety from the Fire. May Allah guide us and you to all good. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
