Passing wind from the front of the woman

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20988 )
Q: I am a woman, and for a long time, wind has been coming out of my front passage in large amounts. This leads to repeating the ablution several times, as well as the prayer. I find great difficulty in repeating the ablution. What is obligatory for me?
And is this wind a nullifier of the ablution? If it is a nullifier of the ablution, what should I do, since it comes out of me in large amounts, and this leads to repeating the ablution five times, and sometimes eight times? This leads to a lack of tranquility in the prayer, out of fear of passing wind. What is obligatory for me regarding the past prayers that I have prayed while it was coming out of me, after repeating the ablution several times? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with good.

A: Based on the medical report sent to the Committee on this matter, which states the following: 1 - The passage of air from the vagina is a simple and common illness among women. This complaint occurs as a result of the widening of the vagina after repeated childbirth for the woman. Thus, when the woman sits or lies down, ordinary air from the room or her place of sitting enters the vagina, and also during intercourse. And when the pressure inside the abdomen rises, such as when attempting to stand up from a sitting position, or coughing, or lifting a heavy body, air exits from the vagina, making a sound as if it were wind passing from the rectum and anus. This that exits from the vagina is ordinary air, and it has no connection to wind or food waste or the intestines. It is possible to treat this matter by performing a surgical operation to tighten the vagina.
2 - It is obligatory to perform a gynecological examination on the aforementioned (the asking woman) to rule out the presence of a vaginal fistula (which is the existence of a tear between the posterior wall of the vagina and the large intestine), where gases leak from the large intestine to the vagina. In this pathological case, a surgical operation is needed to close this tear, because the passage of (gases) between the anus and the vagina through this tear is considered wind. It is possible for this questioner to present herself to a consultant in gynecology and obstetrics, where it can be determined whether there is a fistula or not. In the case of the presence of a fistula, it can be treated with a surgical operation that may cure the patient of this complaint. And Allah knows best. Based on the aforementioned report, the Committee answered: That the wind coming out of the front passage has two states: The first state: That it arises from the widening of the vagina due to repeated childbirth in the woman, so ordinary air enters for certain reasons, such as sitting or lying down, and then exits from the vagina when the body's condition changes, making a sound that has no connection to food waste or the intestines. In this state, this wind is not considered a nullifier of the ablution.
The second state: That the wind arises from the leakage of gases from the large intestine to the vagina, due to the existence of a tear between the posterior wall of the vagina and the large intestine. In this state, this wind is considered a nullifier of the ablution, because its reality is wind, but it exited from other than its exit. The distinction between the two states is known by consulting the specialists among female doctors. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
