It is recommended for a capable brother to assist his brothers in marriage and other matters
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: We are seven brothers. Our eldest is now about sixty years old, and our youngest is now about twenty-six. We were all together with our father, who was alive and well, and he is still alive, praise be to Allah. Thirteen years ago, during the Gulf Crisis, four of us got married and three remained. During that time, I left my family from my father’s house and left with him, in his hands and in mine, all of my brothers, everything I had earned from my absence abroad: a complete house with used and new bedding and furniture, household utensils, weapons, a car, a compressor and its equipment, a flock of sheep, and other things. After I left the house, two of the brothers got married, and the third has not yet married to this day. Please note that our other three brothers did not share in the costs of our wedding, we being the four eldest who married first. My question now is: Is it obligatory upon me by the Shari'ah to pay them some of the costs of the weddings of the two brothers who recently married, as well as the last third brother who has not married, or not? Knowing that we are all now expatriates from our homeland, and I am supporting eight children. Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good, about what is obligatory upon me by the Shari'ah and what I must do toward my brothers.
A: It is recommended for a capable brother to assist his brothers in the costs of marriage and other matters, especially if they are in need of assistance, but it is not obligatory upon the questioner
to assist his brothers, whether they are married or unmarried.
