Q: I am your brother (A. M. A.), my age exceeds one hundred years, and I was involved in two accidents, one in the right hip and the other a fracture in the left thigh. I am unable to perform wudu to perform the prayer, and my sons carry me
from the chair to the bed, and I perform the prayer while on the bed, and I perform tayammum instead of wudu, knowing that I use only the toilet to spray the place of the impurity, and one of my sons does this without rubbing the place of the impurity. May Allah reward you well, knowing that urination is taken from me while I am on the bed, and in most cases some of it hits my clothes. Please give us a ruling, may you be rewarded, regarding purity and prayer in this situation, and may Allah reward you with good, and may Allah preserve you and care for you.
A: It is obligatory for you to remove the effect of the excrement by istijmar with tissues and the like until the effect is gone, on the condition that this is done three times or more. Likewise, you wipe the tip of the penis with a tissue after urination, three times or more, and that suffices you instead of istinja with water. As for what hits your body and clothes from the urine, it is washed with water by your wife or one of your sons or others. If the time for prayer becomes narrow and it is not possible for someone to wash the traces of urine from your clothes and body, then pray and there is no blame on you, and then it is washed afterwards. And you must perform wudu with water for your face, hands, wiping your head and ears, and washing your feet, whether that is done by your hands or by the hand of one of your family members, such as your sons or others. If you are unable to perform wudu (on your four limbs) and it is not possible for someone to perform wudu for you, then tayammum suffices you. We ask Allah to make our ending and yours good, and to grant you healing and magnify your reward.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
