Q: My mother is ill, and a shaykh has possessed her body. When he comes to her, she must yawn a great deal, and when he leaves, the same thing happens. However, he demands specific gold, and my mother wears gold. He also demanded specific birds, such as a pigeon of a certain color and chicks of certain colors. After that, she must wear a white garment, and the birds are slaughtered over her head. Then we eat these birds, except my mother (meaning: my mother did not eat from them). After that, we take the bones and throw them in the sea (the Nile). Then, every week on a specific day,
which is Tuesday, we must take her and visit some of the shaykhs, namely Shaykh Abu al-Sa'ud and Lady Zaynab and al-Husayn . If we do not carry out these things, they do unpleasant things to her, such as making her ill or having her lie in bed for a period. What is your opinion on this? I ask for a detailed answer on this matter, and may Allah reward you with all good.
A : If a jinn possesses a human body, it is obligatory for him not to obey it in what it commands of disobedience to Allah or associating partners with Him. These birds that the jinn demands be slaughtered over your mother’s head are not permissible to obey him in, nor are they to be eaten. Rather, the Muslim should seek help from Allah and seek refuge in Him, and hold fast to the Shari'ah of Allah and not disobey Him; for these sins and acts of shirk (associating partners with Allah) are what enable Shaytan to gain control over a person. He should fortify himself by reciting the Qur'an and the prescribed supplications with the dhikr (remembrance of Allah) established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This includes reciting Surat al-Fatihah, reciting Ayat al-Kursi (the Verse of the Throne), reciting Surat al-Ikhlas (Say: He is Allah, the One) three times, and reciting the two Mu'awwidhat (Surat al-Falaq and Surat al-Nas) three times. Then he should blow with his hands and wipe his face and as much of his body as he can with them. This includes (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created) and (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on earth or in the sky can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing), and (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every Shaytan and wasp, and from every evil eye). It is not permissible to go to graves to seek intercession from the dead, for that is shirk (associating partners with Allah). Rather, healing is in what Allah has made lawful. Return to the book (Al-Kalim al-Tayyib) by Ibn Taymiyyah ,
and (Al-Wabil al-Sayb) by Ibn al-Qayyim , and (Al-Adhkar al-Nawawiyyah), for there is benefit in them. If one of the righteous reads the correct verses and dhikr over her and blows on her, that is good. We ask Allah for her immediate healing. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
