Depicting Christian symbols such as crosses
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 21570 )
Q 1: The image of the well-known cross has appeared recently, and people have been lenient regarding it, so we have come to see this image on satellite channels, promotional magazines, and elsewhere.
1- What is the ruling on depicting the cross in general? 2- What is the ruling on publishing the image of the cross in magazines, advertisements, or elsewhere? 3- We see the image of the cross in some Islamic magazines, and this is done to warn people of their Christian enemies and to expose their missionary plans. What is the ruling on that? 4- What is the ruling on depicting their religious rituals?
A: First: It is not permissible to depict crosses or other symbols of disbelief and to publish them in magazines and advertisements, except if the intention is to inform Muslims about them so that they may be cautious of them, so that they do not end up honoring and exalting them without realizing it, and their publication must be accompanied by an explanation that conveys this. Second: It is not permissible to depict the rituals of disbelief or to display them to Muslims; because they contain disbelief in Allah and His Messenger, and they contradict the religion of Islam. This action also encourages attachment to and being influenced by them, especially by those weak in faith. Furthermore, this also breaks the barrier of aversion between the Muslim and disbelief. Whatever is of this nature, one must stay away from it.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
