I vowed to fast one month every year for the rest of my life

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14508 )
Q: I was approximately eighteen years old when I was afflicted with a malignant disease. I went to government and private hospitals, as well as Arab medicine, for several years without any benefit. I vowed for the sake of Allah to fast one month of thirty days every year for the rest of my life if I were healed from this malignant disease. And, praise be to Allah, I have been healed from the disease that afflicted me previously. I have married and have seven children. I fasted five months of the vow before marriage and one month after marriage. I am a nursing woman, and my fasting affects the nursing child. Please note that since I married, I have either been pregnant or nursing. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good. Is it permissible for me to do something in place of the fasting, or is fasting obligatory? May you remain well?
A: You must continue to fast what you vowed every year, and you must make up the months you left off during times when you are able to do so; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam)
,
And Allah praised the believers who fulfill their vows in His saying, Mighty and Majestic, in the Surah:
Has there come to manهَلْ أَتَى عَلَى الْإِنْسَانِ
by saying:
They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًا
[Al-Insan 76:7]
. We ask Allah to grant you assistance and to guide everyone to what He loves and is pleased with. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
