Her mother wishes for him to name his son after her father

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 9620 )
Q 1: Before my mother passed away - may Allah have mercy on her and grant her Paradise - her wish was to name [the child] after her father - may Allah have mercy on him and grant him Paradise - that is, my grandfather. At that time, I was not married, and I told her: If Allah wills, I will name [the child] after my grandfather... Is it obligatory for me to use this name, and is
this a bequest or not?

A 1: This is a promise from you to name [the child] after your grandfather, and keeping a promise is among the characteristics of faith. It is also a form of dutifulness to your mother, provided there is no harm in using the name. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
