The third question of Fatwa No. ( 11056 )
Q 3: I was below the age of puberty, and I went to one of the sheikhs of the Sufi orders, and I said to him: I want to enter the path of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jili . He said: Take the covenant. And I took the covenant from his hands , my hand in his hand, and he said to me: Repeat the covenant with me.. In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad and upon his family and his companions and grant them peace. I intend to enter the path of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jili , and I have sold myself to this my Shaykh
and he mentions his name. First: Is this covenant valid and that I have repented to Allah? Second: Is it a refuge until death? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A 3: The covenant you mentioned is not valid, and you have done well in your repentance to Allah. You must hold fast to the Book of Allah the Exalted and the Sunnah of His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in creed and speech, without taking a covenant on the path of any of the sheikhs of the orders, and sell yourself to Allah instead of selling it to the Shaykh, in commitment to His Shari'ah, Blessed and Exalted is He. You are not required to continue with this covenant that you took from the Shaykh; because it is a bid'ah (religious innovation) to be avoided; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 1718b It was narrated by Imam Muslim in (his Sahih), and this pledge of allegiance is not commanded by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by the text of this hadith, so it is rejected. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his companions and grant them peace.
