The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20451 )
Q1: A person had the habit of feeding a group of people every Friday, and after eating, they did not leave their places or seats; rather, they waited for the supplication of one of them, whom the owner had designated
The host of the food designated that he should ask Allah to send the reward of that food to their deceased relatives and kin. During this supplication, the questioner raises his hand along with the attendees, and they say: "Ameen." Is this group supplication, in which hands are raised after the meal, permissible or not?
A1: Group supplication after the meal in the manner described has no basis in the pure Shari'ah. Therefore, it is obligatory to abandon it because it is a religious innovation (bid'ah), and one should suffice with what the Sunnah brought regarding supplication for the host of the meal with blessings and the like, with each person saying it individually. Among what came in the Sunnah is the saying:Sunan Abi Dawud 3729Sahih (Al-Albani) and the saying: Sunan Ibn Majah 1747Sahih (Darussalam) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
