Slaughtering a black male goat to get rid of diseases
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21405 )
Q: One of my female relatives, who is an elderly woman, has a custom every year, which is: that she slaughters a (male goat) from the goats , and the color of this male goat is black, and she believes that by slaughtering this male goat she gets rid of some of the diseases that afflict her, and if asked about it she says: it is charity. She has sons who help her with this act. Please rule for us, may you be rewarded, on the ruling of this act.
A : Slaughtering for this belief, and with this specific color designated for slaughter, and at a specific time, is not permissible; because it is based on a defective belief, which is that it frees one from diseases, and if the intention behind the slaughter is for the jinn or the devils, then it is considered major shirk (associating partners with Allah), so it is obligatory for you to advise this woman and others who do this act, to abandon it and repent to Allah from it, for it is Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) alone who removes harm and prevents the descent of diseases, not them. Allah the Exalted said:[Az-Zumar 39:38]
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Say, "Then have you considered what you invoke besides Allah? If Allah intended me harm, are they removers of His harm; or if He intended me mercy, are they withholders of His mercy?" Say, "Sufficient for me is Allah; upon Him [alone] rely the [wise] reliers."
