Fatwa number ( 21596 )
Q: I inform you that I am advanced in age, and I have two sons (twins) who are studying in the third year of middle school. I want them to be upright and to go with me to the mosque to perform the prayer, but sometimes they refuse. I ask for supplication for them. What is the method that can be used to reform them? I have informed the school administration about this matter. May Allah preserve you and protect you.
A: I advise you to persist in advising your sons and not to despair, and to use beneficial methods in their upbringing and guidance. Sometimes by encouraging them, and sometimes by warning them, instilling the love of Allah and His Messenger in their hearts, keeping them away from bad company, encouraging them to keep the company of the righteous, and warning them from corrupting media. Before and after all this, frequently resort to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) with supplication for their reform and uprightness. This is what Allah praised His righteous servants for, and He said (Exalted and Majestic is He):[Al-Furqan 25:74] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
