His brother treats him badly; how should he deal with him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7178 )
Q 2: I have a brother from my mother and father who is older than me, but he hates me intensely. Is it permissible to sever ties with him or not?
A 2: Meet his evil with good, perhaps Allah will remove his hatred for you and replace it with love. Allah the Exalted said:
And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.
[Fussilat 41:34]
And it is established from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him):
Abu Huraira reported that a person said: Allah's Messenger, I have relatives with whom I try, to have close relationship, but they sever (this relation). I treat them well, but they treat me ill. I am sweet to them but they are harsh towards me. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: If it is so as you say, then you in fact throw hot ashes (upon their faces) and there would always remain with you on behalf of Allah (an Angel to support you) who would keep you dominant over them so long as you adhere to this (path of righteousness).
Sahih Muslim 2558a
Narrated by Muslim. And it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The one who maintains family ties is not the one who reciprocates, but rather the one who, when his family ties are cut off, reconnects them.
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:623
Narrated by al-Bukhari. And it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Anyone who cuts off relationship from his nearest relatives will not enter Paradise.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1696Sahih (Al-Albani)
Narrated by Muslim. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
