Praise be to Allah alone, and may peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from His Excellency the Director of Religious Affairs for the Armed Forces, and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, with number (4758) and date 9/9/1413 AH. The questioner asked a question, the text of which is as follows: Attached you will find a clipping from the visitor guide for King Khalid Air Base, which contains a picture of a stone in the shape of an eagle; this is due to erosion, as this stone was brought from outside the base and placed in its current form, as you can see in the picture; this is for the purpose of reflecting on the creation of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). We wish to obtain a fatwa.
After the Committee's study of the question, it answered that it must be removed; because it is in the form of an animal, and erecting images of living beings, such as statues and the like, is not permissible, and it is a means to major shirk.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
