Eating at the Christians' Homes in Their Vessels

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 2340 )
Q 3: We are in a land whose rulers are Christians, and we visit some of them, whether they are officials or not, and they serve us some food that is halal in our religion, but it is in their vessels. Likewise, the people of popular restaurants cook in them. What is the ruling on eating from that?
A 3: It is permissible to eat from the slaughtered animals of the People of the Book, the Jews and the Christians, if they mention the name of Allah over them, or if it is not known whether they mentioned the name of Allah over them or not, provided that those slaughtered animals are from the animals that Allah has made lawful for us. As for eating their food or our food in their vessels, the correct view is that it is permissible; due to the statement of Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with them both):
I was on an expedition along with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). We got the vessels and skins of the polytheists and used them. But he did not object to them (i.e. us) for that (action).كنا نغزو مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فنصيب من آنية المشركين وأسقيتهم ولا يعيب ذلك علينا
Sunan Abi Dawud 3838Sahih (Al-Albani)
. And due to the statement of 'Abd Allah ibn Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him):
A leather bag of fat was hung on me on the day of Khaybar, so I held onto it and said: "By Allah, I will not give anyone anything from it." Then I turned around and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiling.دلي جراب من شحم يوم خيبر فالتزمته وقلت: والله لا أعطي أحدًا منه شيئًا، والتفت فإذا رسول الله صلى الله عليه سلم يبتسم
narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim , and because
A Jew invited the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to bread and a thick soup, so he ate from it.يهوديًّا دعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى خبز وإهالة سنخة فأكل منها
, narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud. This is supported by the statement of Allah the Exalted:
and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for youوَطَعَامُ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ حِلٌّ لَكُمْ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:5]
, but the more cautious course is to refrain from eating in their vessels when there is no need or cause for doing so;
Due to the statement of Abu Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him): I said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are in the land of a people of the Book, so should we eat in their vessels?" He said: "Do not eat in them unless you do not find anything else, then wash them and eat in them."
as narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
