The second question of Fatwa No. ( 6582 )
Q 2: What is the ruling in Islam regarding a man who lives in financial and then family problems that lead him to disgust, particularly toward his father? The son offered his father the option of releasing him so he could fulfill his demands outside his original country (from a Muslim Arab country to a European country), and his father refused. So the question is: In this case, can the son leave the family to seek a livelihood outside his country, without resorting to his father’s stubborn opinion, even though his mother is willing for the son to leave, given the many problems presented?
A 2: The son must be dutiful to his father and mother, and it is forbidden for him to be undutiful to them or to harm them, even by sighing, showing disgust, or displaying irritation. He must assist each of them to the best of his ability with what they need, whether in money or work. As for separating from them or from one of them by traveling or the like, if the problems cannot be resolved except by doing so, then there is no blame on the son for doing so out of dire necessity, even if the father or the mother or both do not give permission, provided he does what he can of what they need in terms of money or a servant, in order to fulfill their right over him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
