Transporting what is used to make intoxicants
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14034 )
Q: Two Muslim men came to me, and they are owners of cargo trucks for earning their livelihood. One of them asked me: I load my truck with a shipment of barley to be taken to the alcohol factories to be made into intoxicants later, and I am certain and have definite knowledge of this. Is it permissible for me to do so, and what is the ruling? The second one says: I transport empty bottles from the merchants' warehouses to the alcohol factories to be filled with intoxicants. What
is the legal ruling on this? And I held back from answering these questions, and I said to the brothers: We have scholars, among them Shaykh: Abdul Aziz, and a special department for legal fatwas, to whom I will refer them so that we find the legal solution to these issues. Now I ask your Eminence for the answer and a written fatwa sent to me so that I can convince them. And I ask Allah for guidance and success for us and for you, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and his Companions.
A: The owner of the first truck is not permitted to load barley onto it to be taken to the alcohol factory to be made into intoxicants later, nor is it permissible for the owner of the second truck to transport empty bottles to the alcohol factory to be filled with intoxicants; because all of that is cooperation in sin and aggression. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:2] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and his Companions.
