Transporting Intoxicants

The third question of Fatwa No. ( 3424 )

Q 3: A Muslim man performs the prayer, fasts, pays the obligatory alms, and carries out all acts of worship, but he drives a truck carrying intoxicants for years. This truck belongs to one of the companies, and he has no job other than this one for his entire life. Is this work forbidden or not?
A 3: The principle is that a person should look for permissible work; because the lawfulness or prohibition of earnings follows the lawfulness or prohibition of the work. If the work is corrupt, the earnings are corrupt. Allah has encouraged eating what is pure, and He the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, eat from the good things which We have provided for youيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ
[Al-Baqarah 2:172]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah is Good and He therefore, accepts only that which is goodإن الله تعالى طيب لا يقبل إلا طيبًا
Sahih Muslim 1015
. A person should strive to the best of his ability to obtain work from which he earns a pure income. Accordingly, your work in driving the car that carries intoxicants is not permissible, and it is obligatory for you to leave it and seek permissible work. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
