The Clothing and Adornment of the Woman in Mourning

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20453 )
Q2: My mother is currently in the mourning period following my father's death, and she
wants your Eminence to clarify for her what is obligatory regarding the use of shampoo, perfume, clothing, and answering the telephone; because these matters have become confused for her due to what she hears from people, and may Allah reward you with the best reward.

A2: It is forbidden for a woman in the mourning period following the death of her husband to wear clothing prepared for adornment and beautification, and she should wear other ordinary clothing that is not prepared for adornment and beautification, and which does not imitate men. It is also forbidden for her to adorn herself with jewelry, or to beautify her body with henna, kohl, cosmetic materials, makeup, or perfume in all its forms, whether on her body or on her clothing. There is no harm in using perfume or incense when she becomes pure from menstruation and performs the ritual bath for it. There is no harm in using shampoo during cleaning and bathing, and similar cleaning materials, such as sidr and soap, and the like. It is permissible for her to speak on the telephone if that does not lead to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) or a religious prohibition. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
