Visiting the widow by her children

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Q: My father (may Allah have mercy on him) passed away, leaving behind my mother. She is an elderly woman with children in Riyadh and elsewhere. She is currently in her waiting period ('iddah) and wishes to visit them or others. What is the ruling on this?

Answer: The widow whose husband has died must stay in her home and not go out; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the widow:
Stay in your house until what is written reaches its term.امكثي في بيتك حتى يبلغ الكتاب أجله
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1204Sahih (Darussalam)
So the widow must stay in her home, and she must not wear beautiful clothes, nor apply perfume, nor use kohl, nor wear jewelry.
There are five matters for the widow that you should observe:
First: Staying in the home until the waiting period ends.
Second: Not wearing beautiful clothes, but wearing clothes that are not beautiful, such as black, green, or blue, but not beautiful.
Third: Not wearing jewelry; such as gold, silver, diamonds, pearls, and the like. So she must not wear jewelry, and a watch is considered jewelry; because it is for beauty and adornment.
Fourth: Not using kohl, so she must not use kohl, and she must not put on her face any of the adornments that women are accustomed to today, other than water and soap and the like.
Fifth: Perfume, so she must refrain from perfume of all kinds, except when she is purified from her menstruation. And she may go out for her need; such as to the court, the hospital, or the market.
