The Iddah: Does it involve performing the usual household chores?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 13274 )
Q: A man passed away, leaving behind two wives who are in his care, and they wish to inquire about the following: What is the ruling on going out to milk the sheep during the period of Iddah, given that the pen is near the house, as well as the farm? Is it permissible to go there to gather green grass, wash her clothes and her children's clothes with soap, and place firewood on Friday and the other days of the week? If that is permissible, on which day is it permissible to visit relatives or go on a trip
with the Mahrams? They went without knowing the ruling of the Shari'ah in this matter. If it is forbidden, what is its expiation? Is it permissible to hold raw meat by hand? Can the Iddah be divided between the two wives, meaning: the period of Iddah, so that each one has two months and five days? Is it permissible for the two wives to visit each other? Is it permissible to sew a white garment? And may Allah reward you a thousand times for us.

A: First: There is no harm in the woman in Iddah leaving her home to go to the nearby sheep pen or to the farm as well. Second: The woman in the waiting period of Iddah may wash her clothes and her children's clothes with ordinary soap, and she may hold raw meat by hand. Third: It is not permissible for a woman in Iddah to leave her house to visit or to travel as long as the period of Iddah, four months and ten days, has not ended. Fourth: It is obligatory for every wife to observe Iddah for her deceased husband for four months and ten days, if she is not pregnant; if she is pregnant, it ends with the delivery of the child, and it is not permissible to divide the period between the two wives. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
