What is the ruling on supplicating to the jinn, and is it shirk (associating partners with Allah)? And does this speech necessitate the separation of the spouses if it comes from one of them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : There are people in various regions who, when angry at someone, say: "Take him, O jinn," or "Take him, O seven," invoking against him that the jinn take him, and the like of these supplications. Is this shirk that invalidates one's deeds? I heard one of the shaykhs in our region preach on a Friday and say that this is shirk, and he even mentioned that if the wife does not repent from it, she will not remain with a Muslim who has tawhid (the oneness of Allah). Please give us a ruling on this, may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : Supplication is not to be made to anyone but Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Whoever supplicates to other than Allah, whether a jinn, an angel, a prophet, or a wali (close friend of Allah), is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). The evidence for this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
[Ghafir 40:60]
Thus, Allah the Exalted made supplication an act of worship, and directing any type of worship to other than Allah is kufr (disbelief) and shirk (associating partners with Allah) that takes one out of the religion, as Allah the Exalted said:
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
[Al-Bayyinah 98:5]
And supplicating to other than Allah is kufr (disbelief), as Allah the Exalted said:
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
[Al-Mu'minun 23:117]
So Allah the Exalted established two important matters in this verse. The first matter is that whoever supplicates to other than Allah is a disbeliever, as He said:
the disbelievers will not succeed.
[Al-Mu'minun 23:117]
The second matter is that whoever supplicates to other than Allah will not succeed; he will not attain what he seeks, nor will he be saved from what he fears. Thus, the one who supplicates to other than Allah is a loser in his religion and his worldly life. And if he is not successful, he is also not of sound mind; rather, this is the height of foolishness, as Allah the Exalted said:
And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection, and they, of their invocation, are unaware.
[Al-Ahqaf 46:5]
meaning that no one is more misguided than the one who supplicates to other than Allah. However, this negation came in the form of a question because it is more eloquent than pure negation, such that it carries the meaning of a challenge. Accordingly, supplicating to the jinn, the Shayatins, the awliya (close friends of Allah), the prophets, the righteous, or anyone else is all shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It is obligatory for the person to repent to Allah from it and not return to it. If he dies upon this belief, meaning the belief that he supplicates to other than Allah and that the one he supplicates to, whether an angel, a prophet, a wali (close friend of Allah), or a messenger, responds to him, then he is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) who deserves what Allah the Exalted said about him:
Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:72]
.

The questioner : Yes, may Allah bless you.
