The third question of Fatwa No. ( 8919 )
Q3: I live with my brothers, who are older than me and married,
and their wives do not observe hijab in front of me. I have ordered them to observe hijab in front of me, but they do not obey my order. Sometimes one of them will have her head uncovered, or her legs exposed, meaning: visible. I am a young man, so what is obligatory for me and what is obligatory for them?
A3: First: It is obligatory for you to lower your gaze from looking at what is not permissible. Second: It is obligatory for the Muslim woman to observe hijab from non-mahram men, such as the husband's brother. Third: You must inform their guardians and their husbands of the Shari'ah ruling regarding the obligation of hijab, and call them to it in the best manner, so that Allah may guide everyone to what He loves and is pleased with. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
