The first question of fatwa number ( 8533 )
Q1: If my brother has a daughter, and that daughter has given birth to a daughter, is it permissible for me to treat her as I would treat her mother, or not?
A1: You become a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to her; because you are the maternal grandfather of her mother, and the maternal grandfather of her mother is her maternal grandfather, and so on with the daughters of the daughters of your brother’s daughter, however far down the line they go. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
