Fatwa number ( 14127 )
Q: I am a young man, 19 years old, studying Islamic jurisprudence, and I am currently in my first year. That is, I do not work, and my father is the one who attends to my needs regarding the bank, food, and drink. As you know, we are in a time when corruption and trials have increased. Is it permissible for me to marry as long as my father provides for me? I mean, I want to marry for the sake of chastity. Can I do so, or should I wait until I complete my studies? Or is financial maintenance obligatory upon me? Please advise us, and may you be rewarded.
A: Marriage is a recommended practice from the practices of the messengers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged young men to hasten to marriage for those who are able to do so, saying:Sunan an-Nasa'i 3208Sahih (Darussalam) , and as long as your father will help you with the matters of
marriage, then this is a facilitation from Allah the Exalted. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
