Ruling on abandoning marriage for one who can afford its expenses

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 16895 )
Q2: Is it permissible for any person to voluntarily refrain from marriage while he possesses the means for the marriage expenses, an apartment, sexual capability, and his financial circumstances are comfortable? I have a friend in such a situation who claims that he does not want to have children who will suffer in this world, and sometimes he uses the excuse that he is old in age, although his mother wants him to marry.
A2: Marriage is prescribed in Islam, and increasing the number of the Ummah of Muhammad is a matter encouraged in Islam. The permissibility of marriage varies according to circumstances. If a person fears that he will fall into what is forbidden if he refrains from marriage, then it is obligatory for him to marry if he is able to afford its expenses, according to the opinion of the majority of Islamic jurists; because protecting oneself from what is forbidden is obligatory, and the way to do so is marriage. For this reason, in this case, marriage is prioritized over Hajj. If, however, he is safe from falling into what is forbidden, then marriage is recommended for him. Therefore, if the situation is as mentioned in your question, he should seek help from Allah and seek a righteous wife; so that he may protect himself and she may be protected. In that lies much good and great reward. As for the justification of refraining from marriage so that there will not be children who suffer in this world, this is a defective justification. It is not permissible for it to cross the mind of a Muslim, let alone for him to base rulings upon it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
