Traveling with a Paternal Cousin
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 9226 )
Q3: I am currently a poor widow with no children, sisters, mother, or father; I am under the mercy of my Lord, and Allah does with me what He wills. I am advanced in age, as I have found no one to support me and my daughter. However, I have a brother who is my paternal cousin. I travel with him to Makkah , and he has two wives who are my sisters. I accompany them in their car to any place, such as for 'Umrah, visiting, or going to the hospital. Is there any sin on me for this, since no one is closer to me than he is? Please inform me: if I go with him for 'Umrah, is it permissible or not?
A3: It is not permissible for a woman to travel except with a mahram (a relative one may not marry). A paternal cousin is not a mahram for you, and his two wives are not mahrams. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
