The wisdom behind the prohibition of wearing sewn garments for the pilgrim
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 9059 )
Q1: Why did Allah forbid pilgrims from wearing sewn garments, and what is the wisdom behind that?
A1: First: Allah made Hajj obligatory for those who are able to afford the means to perform it among those of legal age, once in a lifetime, and established it as one of the pillars of Islam, which is known from the religion by necessity. Therefore, the Muslim must perform what Allah has made obligatory upon him; to please Allah and obey His command, hoping for His reward and fearing His punishment, while trusting that Allah the Exalted is Wise in His legislation and all His actions, and Merciful to His servants, so He does not legislate for them except what is in their interest and what brings them great benefit in this world and the Hereafter. So legislation belongs to our Lord, the King, the Wise (Glorified and Exalted is He), and obedience with submission belongs to the servant. Second: The prescription of stripping off sewn garments in Hajj and 'Umrah has many wisdoms, among which is: remembering the state of people on the Day of Resurrection, for they will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment barefoot and naked, then they will be clothed, and in remembering the state of the Hereafter there is admonition and a lesson. Among them is: humbling the soul, making it aware of the obligation of humility, and purifying it from the stain of arrogance. Among them is: making the soul aware of the principle of closeness, equality, and austerity, and distancing itself from the detested luxury, and showing compassion to the poor and the needy... and so on of the objectives of Hajj in the manner that
Allah legislated and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explained. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
