The questioner : I work on Friday due to work circumstances, and the supervisor does not give me the opportunity to perform the Friday prayer. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah in your view regarding this, and what is obligatory for me to follow?

The Shaykh : The Friday prayer is obligatory for every Muslim to respond to the call when he hears it, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
. If your location is far from the mosque, such as in farms outside the town, and you do not hear the call, then the Friday prayer is not required of you in this case; rather, you should perform the midday prayer. However, if you are inside the town and you hear the Friday call, but your companion prevents you from attending it, then the reference in this matter is to the court in your area, which in turn will take the necessary action regarding this man.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
