Proxy in Hajj for a single person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 2658 )
Q1: Is it permissible to perform Hajj as a proxy for a deceased person and a living person? A friend of mine lost his father, and he wants to perform Hajj on his behalf as a proxy. Is that permissible, and will they both receive reward? Likewise, regarding his mother, who is unable to ride in a car or an airplane, and is not ill? Is it permissible for him to perform Hajj once, thereby being a pilgrim for his father, his mother, and himself? Or
should he perform a separate Hajj for each of them, or is that not permissible? I mean: that he performs Hajj on their behalf.

A1: It is permissible to perform Hajj as a proxy for a deceased person and for a living person who is unable to perform Hajj. It is not permissible for a person to perform Hajj once and designate it for two people, for Hajj is not valid except for one person. The same applies to 'Umrah. However, if he performs Hajj for one person and 'Umrah for another in the same year, it is valid for him, provided that the pilgrim has performed Hajj for himself and 'Umrah for her. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
