Fatwa number ( 19374 )
Q: My mother is advanced in age and resides in Egypt , and she is unable to perform the rites of Hajj because, in addition to her old age, she suffers from joint pain and cannot walk. I performed Hajj for myself previously, and I performed Hajj for my mother this year, 1417 AH. Is my Hajj on her behalf acceptable, given that my mother does not have the means to perform it herself? May Allah guide you to serve Islam and the Muslims, and bestow upon you from His knowledge.
A: Performing Hajj on behalf of a living person who is unable to do so due to old age or an illness that is not expected to end is permissible, provided that the proxy has already performed the obligatory Hajj for himself. This is based on what is established from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both),Sahih Muslim 1334 narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim in their (Sahihayn). Accordingly, your Hajj on behalf of your mother, given her condition as described, is valid if she has given her permission.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

(But) my father is an aged man; he is incapable of riding safely. May I perform Hajj on his behalf? He said: Yes.
