Fatwa number ( 18972 )
Q: I am a sick man suffering from a mental illness, and the illness worsens in me when there is a crowd of people. The question: Is it permissible for me to appoint a man for a fee to perform Hajj on my behalf, given that I am unable to perform Hajj even though I have never performed Hajj before?
A : If you are unable to perform Hajj yourself with a continuous inability that is not expected to end, then it is obligatory for you to appoint someone to perform Hajj on your behalf, the Hajj of Islam, and to pay him the financial costs of Hajj, on the condition that the agent has first performed the Hajj of Islam for himself. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
