Fatwa No. ( 12633 )
Q: There is, O honorable Shaykh, a father with seven sons and seven daughters. Among these sons, four are grown men, the eldest of whom is not good with his father. The three who came after him agreed with their father to set up exhibitions for him starting from the year 1400 AH, on the condition that the profit would be divided between the father and the three sons. Yes, the three sons carried out the exhibitions well, and two of them left their studies to focus on the exhibitions, which have continued from 1400 AH to this day. After these years, the father said: “I think this is forbidden, that you are taking it without your other brothers and sisters (meaning: half of the profit).” Is this forbidden? Even though our other brothers and sisters are young, and we, O honorable Shaykh, left everything and worked in these exhibitions. The father said: “Ask the honorable Shaykh Abdul Aziz.” And peace be upon you. Please inform us of what pleases Allah, and may Allah reward you with the best reward.
A: There is no blame on the father, nor on the three sons who agreed with him to work in the exhibitions for half of the profit obtained from their work, if the situation is as described in the question; because what they take from the profit is in return for their work, and not a gift from their father to them to the exclusion of their siblings. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
