Fatwa No. ( 13157 )
Q: I am an employee at the Zakat and Income Authority; is it permissible for me to help people reduce the amount of zakah they pay to the Authority? Knowing that the full amount of zakah is paid to the poor and needy, identified by these people themselves.
A : The employee is entrusted with his work, and the job is a trust. It is obligatory for him to fulfill the trust in the manner prescribed by the Shari'ah, and it is not permissible for him to be treacherous in what he has been entrusted with. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Anfal 8:27] Therefore, it is not permissible for the employee to increase beyond the obligatory amount of zakah, nor to decrease from it. Rather, the obligation is to be just in this, which is the amount determined by the Shari'ah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
