The ruling on a deposit if it is destroyed in the possession of the depositary
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of the fatwa number ( 7518 )
Q6: What is the ruling on a deposit that is destroyed in your possession, belonging to your Muslim brother? Is it obligatory to pay its value to its owner?
A6: It is not permissible to dispose of the deposit because it is a trust, unless its owner gives explicit permission or permission by implication. If it is destroyed without any transgression by the depositary, he owes no compensation. If he transgresses, he must guarantee its like if it is a commodity of a kind, or its value if it is not a commodity of a kind.
