Q: I have an elderly mother who is unable to fast the month of Ramadan, and three years have passed while she has been in this state of old age and illness. What is required of her?
A: If the situation is as you described, it is obligatory for her to feed one poor person for every day she broke her fast in Ramadan during the three years. She should feed him half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of wheat, dates, rice, corn, or something similar to what you feed your families.
