Women gathering for wailing over the deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 2709 )
Q2: When a person dies among them, all the women of the town where the deceased died gather for three days, and they start screaming in a place they call the condolence gathering, and they wail with the wailing of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, saying so-and-so was such and such, and they cry with wailing. So I told them: This method is forbidden, and it does not exist except in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. They said to me: Bring the evidence?
A2: Wailing and lamenting are not permissible, and lamenting is: enumerating the virtues of
the deceased. And among what indicates the prohibition is the hadith of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed the wailing woman and the woman who listens to her.لعن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم النائحة والمستمعة
Sunan Abi Dawud 3128Da'if in chain (Al-Albani)
, narrated by Abu Dawud , and wailing is raising the voice by enumerating the characteristics of the deceased and the virtues of his actions. And from Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), she said:
the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) made us pledge that we will not wailأخذ علينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أن لا ننوح
Bulugh al-Maram 588
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And the two hadiths indicate the prohibition of wailing and the prohibition of listening to it, since the curse does not fall except upon a forbidden thing. And in the two Sahihs, from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He is not one of us who strikes his cheeks, rends his garment, and calls the calls of the Jahiliyyah.ليس منا من ضرب الخدود وشق الجيوب ودعا بدعوى الجاهلية
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1862Sahih (Darussalam)
, and in them also: from the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have no concern with one who shaved her hair, lamented loudly and tore (her clothes in grief).أنا بريء ممن حلق وسلق وخرق
Sahih Muslim 104b
, and shaving: shaving the hair upon
a calamity, and slaq: raising the voice with crying upon a calamity, and khirq: tearing the clothes upon a calamity, and similar to that is slitting them, and there is more in this chapter. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
